where to start scouting…
Question:
Hey! Im sorta new to bowhunting. I’ve been shooting a bow for about a year now and will be venturing out into the field sept 15 for opening day of bow season. I have been hunting with a shotgun for a few years now and usually do my scouting while hunting for small game. But now i dont have that chance and ihave to get out there in the next few days and start scouting…especially since school starts in a week and a half. Where should i concentrate my scouting efforts? I live in maryland. And we are in a severe drought. Crops practically dont exist. Where i will be hunting is a 2000 acre tract of land that has woods, swamp areas (probably all dried out though), corn fields and soybean. THe corn from is pretty terrible this year. Im not sure how the soybean is holding up. I was thinkin that maybe i should concentrate on areas that have water availble to the deer. Any suggestions would help me alot before i venture out there to do some scouting! thanks in advance Jason Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

You’ve kind of answered your own question, look for sign in the areas between the food, the soybeans and the corn, and the water. Look for dense cover between these areas, and that’s where the deer will be hiding during the day, look for paths between the areas, and that’s where they’ll be at dawn and dusk. — Good fishing, Matt Moore Visit Matt’s Severum World at: http://www.virtualseeds.com/matt.html
