My dad tried to teach me to be patient when squirrel hunting.  If you found a tree they were cutting (eating the nuts) then sit down a few yards away and wait – and wait – and wait!!  I was a lot younger then and the wait seemed like forever!  I just couldn’t sit still as long as dad.  Now, I’m alot older and it is much easier to wait. Anyway, if you can wait, the squirrels will come to you.  Don’t get right up under the tree.  Take a position 10 – 15 steps away.  You get a better view up into the tree than you’ll have if you try to get right up under it. Whether you are shooting shotgun, pistol, or .22 rifle NEVER, NEVER take a shot at a squirrel on the side of a tree (and you will see them do this if you hunt long enough) where the shot is parallel to the ground.  Its very dangerous to anyone else who may be in the woods hunting that you don’t see. Remember, one of the rules of gun safety, "Identify your target AND what is beyond". So, in a ‘nutshell’ find a good tree the squirrels are cutting, get under it at the crack of dawn and wait.  If you’ve found it, they will come. Have any specific questions, I would welcome your private email. Sit still in an area known to have squirrels about.  Then, wait for them to come to you.  Also, a little squirrel call doesn’t hurt.

About web sites I couldn’t say. A good rule for squirrel hunting is to spend 10X as much time looking and listening as you do moving. Move s-l-o-w-l-y and stop with your back against a tree trunk or bush. Watch the ground and lower limbs of the trees as much or more than you watch the tree tops. If you think an area looks "squirrely", or you have seen a squirrel that disappeared, sit down with something behind you and don’t move other than to turn your head slowly for 15-20 minutes. I can’t say about yankee squirrels, but around here one way to tell if you are  in "squirrel country" is to look for nests in the tops of trees. A squirrel nest  will look alot like a large loose bird’s nest (16"-18" in diameter). Look for partially eaten acorns, nuts, pine cones etc. on the ground. They drop almost as much as they eat. Good squirrel hunting technique will serve you well in hunting larger game too.      Bill Van Houten (USA Ret)  "No matter how hard you try, you can’t throw a potato chip very far."         It might help to know where you are and what kind of squirrels. There is a huge difference, for instance, between red squirrels on the south shore of Lake Superior and gray or fox squirrels in the Blue Ridge. For that matter, there are differences between gray and fox squirrels that are worth knowing. — RR "Beartooth" Neuswanger, PhD karhunhammas (at) lserv.com (new) Work is for people who can’t hunt. hunting. I hunt for squirrels the same way I hunt for deer.  I find the squirrels most active for an hour or so after sunrise and about the last hour before sunset.  I hunt them from the same tree stands (private property) that we use during the deer season, sitting in full cameo as still as possible.  Shoot one, let it lie and make a mental note of where it is.  Another will be along shortly.  We frequently get our limit in one sitting, and then go out and collect the kill.  Now, skinning them; that’s another story… Cartan.  .. Squirrel and dumplings. Made just like chicken and dumplings. Or in the case of *young* squirrels, fry them like So.
