Question:
I have a 2X Tasco on one and a Simmons 2X on my other turkey gun. Both work well. Shots a never more than 40 yds. so I don’t think you need any more magnification. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I have a Leupold 2.5X on an 870. Considering the short ranges involved this is more than enough. You might think about a quality red dot, too. You need a good one to deal with recoil of a turkey load. DFB >I recently acquired a new turkey gun and I am thinking about mounting a >scope on it. Specially since you mention a vent rib. I never put a scope on for turkey, but on a slug gun I had a 2x on a Ithaca 37, and a 2.5x on a Rem 1100. I wouldn’t go any higher than that. After all, you’re not shooting at 300 yards. samg Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

A 2X Simmons Pro-Diamond works for me. If he’s in at 40 yards and his head is in the diamond, he is meat in the pan. For deer, I use a fixed 4 X 40.
