Rifle scope on an Air rifle

Question:

IF you put a rifle scope on an air rifle you’ll shake the crosshairs loose because they’re not supported on both sides (front and back). What about putting a Red Dot Sight, such as a Pro Point on a model 36 Dianawerks???  Will it also be destroyed??? The US Constitution spells out our rights, we must secure them ourselves. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I have a Beeman SS2 3X21 power scope on my Diana Mod 52 and love it. Have shot better than 500 pigeons in Military Aircraft hangers while I was serving as the NCOIC of the Pest Control Shop on several Air Force Bases. It will drop a pigeon  from better than 110 foot straight up.  I had to be able to shoot accurately because most of the hangers had heat sensors in the roof that were every expensive to fix after being shot.  It has stood up to the recoil for better than 12 years and does double duty on my Winchester 9422 Mag for varmint around the farm.   Its was not cheep but well worth it. The recoil of a high powered spring air rifle is back then forward as the piston hits the end of its travel.  This snapping back and forth and the vibrations that it causes can shake the cross hairs out of some rifle scopes.  The Air gun scopes are built so that they can handle the unique  forces placed on it by the spring airguns. ( this is the reason they cost so much) Pneumatic air rifles and the recoilless spring air rifles are not going to hurt any type of scope Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

It was explained to me that spring-action "air rifles" have a sharp *forward* motion on firing. Scope reticules are braced & supported against a *backward* recoil; there is often nothing more than some dabs of glue at the edge to hold them against this "wrong-way" motion. The questions regarding putting a shotgun scope on a 30.06 brings up another question.  I have heard that it alright parallax aside to put a pellet gun scope on a rifle, but putting a rifle or shotgun scope on an air rifle can destroy the crosshair in very short order.  It seems unlikely, but two gun dealers told me the same thing.  Is there any expert advice out there. I’m not planning on doing it –just curious. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
