I have two.  IMHO the greatest gun going for general use. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING

My 870 is of  1965 vintage. Never a problem, and although its worn and shows some rust (I carried it in the trunk of my car for years …  spilled window-wash fluid works good at removing bluing!) I still use it to this day. Very accurate, very reliable gun.  Mine is a 28" modified, and have used it to bust many pheasants, rabbits, clay targets, and even one deer.  I’m thinking of buying a slug-only barrel for the gun,  to put a scope on & use as a short-range deer-slayer.  (Deer in NC where I hunt are up-close and personal.  50 yds max.) The 870 is a good choice for all-around shootin.. Good luck to you! Response:

for the price probably the best gun ever made. I would suggest a combo set with rifled barrel and 28 inch smooth bore. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING

I’m gonna have to agree! In my oppinion and experience, the 870 is the best pump for the buck.  I like the new one, the Express Super Magnum Synthetic.  I friend from work just got one and he loves it.  It can shoot 2 3/4", 3", and 3 1/2" shells. http://www.remington.com Good luck! I have an 870 Express Magnum with the black synthetic stock.  This gun is reliable, inexpensive, and tough.  I’d recommend one to anyone that is on a limited budget and needs an all purpose shotgun. Take care of it, be sure to oil it, and keep the humidity right, and it whould be a good gun.  I don’t own one, but I’ve borrowed friends several times for hunting, and I like it. :  The 870 is a good choice for all-around shootin.. Agreed.  A good gun.  Now if only the left handed model wasn’t more. —       http://blugill.home.ml.org/ Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING
