Question about Blackpowder
Question:
A couple of weeks ago I bought a CVA black powder dbbl. barrel shotgun at a pawn shop. It needed a sear spring and was cheap so I bought it. I called CVA about an instruction manual for loading it properly – but they sent me rifle info. Does anyone know how many grains of powder and ounces of shot I should use? Thanks alot! Response:
In the back of the 1992 Dixie Catalogue ther is a chart called "SERVICE LOADS FOR MUZZLELOADING GUNS Feb. 1896" This states: 12-13 Ga, 89 Grains powder, 1 1/4 Ozs. shot; I think this was a max. load 100 yrs ago . I use 80 Grains Pyrodex, and 1 1/4 oz. lead shot, in my crica 1840 Belgin double 13, but you are going to have to work up your own optimum load, that is the fun of Black Powder!
