Question:

Pa anterless deer season open today and as usual I hunted on a local gameland. Each year it’s the same situation of when you see a deer it’s traveling f-u-l-l out.  This year the weather was cold and it rained.  What a combination. Twice my scope fogged up but finally at 10:30 I took a nice doe.   What a challenge!!! Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Hi, Darrell.  Any advice for how to practice shooting fast moving game with a rifle?  There are plenty of places to practice shooting clays with shotgun, but I’ve never heard of a moving big-game rifle practice range. Did you set something up for this?  Shooting at the bench is all good and fine, but it doesn’t really prepare you for hunting (how many deer do you see when your rifle’s resting on a sand-bag, eh?) – Rick Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

traveling f-u-l-l Not sure if it will help, but I have taken 90% of all my deer (even ones that were on a run) doing what I call a Whistle Stop!  When they are coming in just give a whistle.  Most of the time they will stop dead in thier tracks just to identify what made the noise.  It works the same if you just yell at them…HEY! …..if you cant whistle. > Twice my scope fogged up but finally at 10:30 I took a nice doe. Is this not one of the many goofy reasons we return to the woods each year?  Cold, wet, hungry, tired, and loving every minute of it! — Steve http://www.provide.net/~posigian ICQ #40524673 Its never about the kill….just the moment!
