Converting a shotgun to 3 1/2"

Question:

> I have a winchester 1300 12 gauge, it shots 3" shells, can I buy a new > barrel that would shot 3 1/2 inch shells?

I know of no bbl. made to accomodate a 3 1/2 shell for a Winchester 1300. Even if a bbl was made or the existing bbl. rechambered and overbored, it still would require a different ejector for the longer case, opening of the ejection port, and a different lifter (carrier)- the 3 1/2 shell would never fit on the existing lifter. If you could find someone to make these parts, then i would be real leery about firing that round in an aluminum receiver shotgun. Kurt J "Politicians are like diapers. Tony, I assume you will get a hundred responses that will tell you "no" and why, so I’ll make this short. If you need a 3 1/2 inch gun and can afford a little more than a new replacement  barrel would cost anyway, pick up a Remington 870 Express Magnum instead.  They have been selling new for around $270-280 where I live, but you mught find a used one for less. Either way, they are the cheapest reliable 3 1/2 inch gum on the market. I know all the guys that have 835 Mossbergs are going to rise up in protest, but I have shot several 835’s of my own and have listened to many other people that also own them.  As much as it has going for it, the 835 DOES show a tendency to be picky about the ammo used. Trying to get off that second shot on the only goose flock that has come over all day is no time to be forced to break down your gun to pry an empty shell Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

No. This is not possible for a couple of reasons. The main one being the ejection port is more than likely too short in order for empty 3 1/2" shells to be ejected. Another reason is that the action is probably not beefed up enough to handle the added pressures generated by the 3 1/2" shell. I also doubt that the 1300 has a barrel that is chambered for the 3 1/2" shell as well. Jay Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

No. Even if you could, the hulls would not eject. Randy Wakeman Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
