Connecticut Hunters
Question:
Im hoping to locate any old cellar holes or foundations in the woods around CT. I use a metal detector around these sites to look for artifacts from the past. I always find shotgun shells in the woods and figured maybe hunters might come across these kinds of areas all the time. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. thanks, Dan Altieri in waterbury. #Im hoping to locate any old cellar holes or foundations in the woods #around CT Dan Altieri #in waterbury. # It’s been a few years, but I used to run into a few of these in the Naugatuck state forest, which is just south of you. I used to hunt the section of the west side of the route 8. Some research in the records office in Naugatuck might give you a better idea of where to look. I believe most of this property was abandoned in the late 1800s and 1900s. You might be able to dig up some property records before the state took it over. Also ask in the local library for anything on local history for that period. I never hunted there but you would probably find the same situation in the Mattatuck forest, which I believe is just north of you.
