Benchrest question ???

Question:

when i shoot bench rest i dont place my off trigger hand on the gun that way i am not tempted to try and raise the barrel up. i doubt very seriously that you can raise the barrel faster than the bullet can leave the barrel unless your already raising the barrel in anticipation of the shot, then you will have problems. Response:

the barrel does’t rise until the bullet leaves the weapon. i have shot both ways with my black power, and a rifle there’s no difference.  hope this helps. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

All guns start to recoil before the bullet leaves the barrel. Don’t try to hold the gun down, just rest the forend on the rest and try to hold the rifle the same way, with the same grip, and the same amount of muscle pressure every time. An adjustable forend rest, with a rabbit ears bag under the butstock are the best. Grip the rifle with your right hand, and use the left to squeeze the rabbit ear to line the sights with the target. With iron sights, consentrate on focusing on the front sight, and letting the target and rear sights do what they will, usually gives the best results, especially with a peapsight on the rear. Consentrate on sight picture, trigger squeeze, breathing, and follow through. The rifle should come to rest in about the same position after every shot, if it doesn’t, the falt probably lies in the way your holding the rifle, or muscle control, or rather lack thereof. Having someone watching you shoot (preferably someone who knows target shooting), can do wonders to correct bad habits or proceedures. Learn the influence of wind, and what corrections are nessisary to counteract it (if you competely figure this one out, let the rest of us know how it’s done, if not, at least you’ll improve your swearword vocabulary). Most guns are more accurate than they show, usually the problem is the jerk on the trigger. — Good fishing, Matt Moore Visit Matt’s Severum World at: http://www.virtualseeds.com/matt.html Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

When shooting slower bullets like muzzle loader or shotgun sabots the muzzle down or let it come up on it’s own?    I’m not sure if the muzzle has started to rise before the bullet has left the barrel or not , so that how I hold it will affect accuracy or not.    I like to expirement with different powder wieghts, bullets, etc on the muzzleloader (Knight Night Hawk) , to get the best accuracy I can, and and not sure the best way to shoot from a rest. Any advice would be appreciated.                      Mike Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
