28" or 26" for dove hunting????

Question:

I am currently looking at the Browning Citori 20 or 12. If you have one of these tell me what you think of the Citori. My real question is the pro’s and con’s of the 28" and 26" barrels for dove hunting.  Thanks Thanks, Matt Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING

The weight difference of that 2" of barrels is negligible.  For my shooting, I choose longer every time. -Scot — ***ANTI-SPAM ALERT***  Note the "removethis." in the return address.                        You know what to do. Also, I think that the 28" set would be better for any skeet or sporting clays shooting you may want to take up when the doves aren’t flying. The Citori has been a great shotgun and is really nice to carry in the 20 ga version.  The 12 is a bit heavy for lugging around all day in the mountains of W PA, but if all I did was dove hunt, I’d probably go that route.  Hope this helps. – Jeff Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING

My real question is the pro’s and # con’s of the 28" and 26" barrels for dove hunting.  Thanks # Thanks, Matt Matt: I’ve got a Citori in 12 ga. and love it. (but it has 30" barrels).  Pro’s for the 26" barrel is that it’s easy to swing the gun quickly to catch up with a bird.  The con is that it’s just as easy to stop the swing because of the shorter barrels.  The 28" barrels on the other hand are a little harder to get moving, but are slightly more difficult ot stop.  (but I’ve been able to stop my 30" barrels on a dime without trying!!!) I have no problem running 25 straight at skeet with the gun.  It also gets the noise slightly farther away from your ears. (but I wear ear protection when hunting anyway!)  It all depends on what type of feel you are looking for in the gun. Try going to a local trap/skeet range and look for shooters that have that gun.  Ask them if you could try a swing or two with their gun to get a feel for it.  If you asked me, I wouldn’t mind! Good luck with your search! Scott S.
