wind direction indicators

Question:

While hunting last week I came across some milk weed pods.  They contain seedlets with a tuft of down like fiber.  Let lose they loft along with the wind, even if it is slight.  They can be taken from the pods and placed in a zip lock bag for use whenever.  Don’t know about the environmental effect of spreading the seeds but that’s why nature designed them the way they did.

Response:

Another indicator (borrowed from my catamaran sailing) is a piece of the tape out of an old cassette tape (preferrably country music, as it ruins the tape).  It will detect even slight breezes and show the direction quite well. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> While hunting last week I came across some milk weed pods.  They contain > seedlets with a tuft of down like fiber.  Let lose they loft along with > the wind, even if it is slight.  They can be taken from the pods and > placed in a zip lock bag for use whenever.  Don’t know about the > environmental effect of spreading the seeds but that’s why nature > designed them the way they did.

Why not just tie a piece of white thread to the upper limb of the bow or to the front sight of the rifle?

Definitely a good point to make! :-) There are lots of things to use for a wind direction indicator. One that a friend told me about is a piece of hair, preferrably straight.  They are readily available. . . at least for most people.  :-) Andy — –            Andrew Chouinard               – –        Ph.D. Student / NASA fellow        - –        Applied Science Department         –   –     Univ. of Arkansas at Little Rock      -
