What size bullet for Mule Deer?

Question:

If your going for muleys with a 7 mm mag. the best bullet to use is the nosler partion 160 for flat shooting, the 139 is just a little light, the guy that says the 90 grain is out in left field , these are mule deer some get in the 300 pound class a 90-95 grain bullet is not accceptable at all, you will need a head shot & if you have ever hunted muleys good luck, don’t get me wrong i’v shot some in the head but most are going to be to far for head shots or 95 graion bullets. I have had good luck in the past using Hornady 154 grain bullets. They pack a great punch. Good Luck K.K.S. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING

The 139 is okay, but a 160 gr. would be better, in case you may take a shoulder  shot at a big mulie.  I’ve seen them close to 300 pounds on the North Rim of  the Grand Canyon.  In .243, I like the 90gr. Speer Hot Core for accuracy in my  gun.  It’s okay for lung shots.  However, if your gun shoots them accurately,  the 95gr. Nosler Partition is excellent in this caliber. Hello I am going after Mulies for the first time in a couple of weeks and taking my .243 and my 7mm.  Given the wide open area i’ll be in, I’m assuming long shots so I plan on using the 7mm for the most part.  Is a 139gr bullet big enough to take down a mulie at 200+ yards?  I plan to sight the rifle in at 200, but before I do, obviously, I need to decide which bullet to sight with so i can make accurate adjustments on distances other than 200.  So, how about it? Will a 139gr bullet work well at longer distances or should I sacrifice some flattness and go with a heavier bullet? Thanks — Scott I buy old fishing tackle…Got an old tackle box laying around collecting dust? I want it!!!!  Top dollar paid!!!! The 7mm RemMag will shoot a 160-gr bullet flat enough that you can zero your rifle at 300 yards (assuming muzzle velocity of 3000 fps or more), giving you a Maximum Point-Blank Range (MPBR) of around 360 yards.  What that means is that, at ranges out to 360 yards, you need only hold centered on the kill zone (with appropriate windage, lead on moving target, etc.) to fill your tag.  I’ve only used 150s and 160s, and in my rifle the 160s perform more consistently (Sierra Game-King and Nosler Partition bullets).  I handload the 160s with 71.7 gr of H-1000 powder and magnum rifle primers (Remington 9-1/2M); for the 150s I use 64.0 gr of H-4831.  Rifle is a Browning A-bolt without BOSS.       -jc- — Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING
