Tree-Lounger Climbing stand
Question:
This has never happened to me, and I’ve used the Tree Lounge for years. I’m not saying it can’t happen though. The top part of the wedge should not be used though, that could possibly be the cause of the accident. Also when setting upbe sure the Tree Lounge is set as tight as possible to the tree. I’ve been using my tree-lounge for a few years now and i found that if you invert the wedge and bring the stand down onto the wedge it can’t flip. i’m glad that you were ok and still use the tree-lounge. I echo the Buckshot recommendation. I used for the first time this weekend my Buckshot "Hotshot" for bowhunters. It’s welded aluminum which makes it light and quiet. It’s also very stable because of the stabilizer straps. — Cordially, R. WOW! Your were lucky man. In my owners manual it says not to use the top 2" of the wedge because it can flip. I thought this was kind of a bad setup.Could that be what you did? I am not trying to defend tree lounge, but you have me concerned about that happening to me. It would not be a good thing for sure. I have practiced using the wedge alot, but have made sure that I have stayed out of that 2" range. I strongly recommend that you find a store that has treestands on display and try them out. There are so many factors to consider in a treestand, both functional and personal. How tolerant are you of heights? Can you comfortably stand on a 2′ by 2′ platform 20′ up in a tree and shoot a bow without leaning against a solid object for stability? How much do you weigh? Do you have the stamina to backpack a 30plus pound treestand up a steep mountain draw? Is the seat wide enough for you? Before buying, you should know how the packed treestand feels on your back. You should have an idea about how cumbersome it is to set up. Does it use blades with tethered bolts and nuts that have to be removed and readjusted for every different size tree. Time consuming. Does it use a chain or cable that wraps around the tree? Quick and easy. Is it bolted together (noisy) or welded (quiet)? Does it matter to you if you can only hunt facing away from the tree, or do you want a stand that allows you the choice? How stable is the treestand when set up; will the seat part move if you are standing and lean against it? How comfortable is it? Don’t know if there is an *ideal* treestand out there, but if only comfort is your main objective, the Tree Lounger may fill that need. My primary objective is stability, and the BigShot by Buckshot meets that criteria. If I was not acrophobic, the API Grand Slam Supreme would be my choice for comfort, ease of set-up, packability and relatively light weight. But that’s my opinion. In any case, I’ll reiterate that you should try it before you buy it. — Cartan "Take time to get away, before time is taken away Before you buy. Probably. But ya know what? As the originator of this thread, I appreciate his help. I’d hate to think we might be running some good information off because we are more interested in HOW information is presented than WHAT is presented. I agree Steve, we can’t all be brain surgeons. His being willing to help should be all that matters. By the way, my Tree Lounger nearly killed me last year. I went up a tree that got much small where I stopped (about 18′ up). I inserted the wedge as shown in the video and instructions. I bounced in my stand to set the wedge and test it’s holding power. Everthing seemed fine. I pulled my pack and rifle up with my rope while still facing the tree in the sling seat. As soon as I placed the pack in my lap, the top portion of the stand slipped off of the wedge and dropped about 2-1/2′, until it stopped REAL FAST. My pack and rifle flew over my head backwards as I was jettisoned out othe stand backwards. The next thing I knew I was hanging by my left boot as it got hung beneath the sling seat. After a few frightning moments I was able to raise myself up and grab the end of the stand with my right hand and somehow free my boot. Suddenly I was hanging with one arm at the end of my stand about 15′ from the ground. (no I hadn’t used my saftey belt and later decided that I’m glad that I didn’t have it on) I finally dropped to the ground with only minor pain, though I felt as if I had been in a car wreck the next day. I still use my stand but will never use the wedge again! Other than that it is a great stand.

Great stand, very comfortable and very safe. It is however heavy, and can be somewhat cumbersome to set up, especially if you are using the bowhunting platform with it as well. Once you are set up its like being in a hotel room in a tree! I have one and use it quite frequently, but I dont think that its worth the hassle to use if you are going out for a couple of hours. If you plan to stay in your stand all day or a good portion of the day then its value is unmeasurable. One last thing it can be hard to set up in the dark, I know from experience.
