total length cartridge 200 grains 30-06 re-loads
Question:
Hellow fellow hunters, Just wandering if anyone out there would have the specifications on the total length of a 30-06 cartridge re-load with 200 grains Barnes-x bullet./ Of course this type of data would need to come from a Barnes re-loading manual. Thank you for your help!!! Not so, some manuals do not even mention COAL for specific rifle cartridges, just that you need to detrmine it for each gun. The depth you seat your bullet to should A) be short enough to feed through the action and mag, and B) be short enough to keep the ogive off the lands in your chamber. SAAMI spec for COAL is 2.940 in min/3.340 in max. max would be for the larger grain sizes. If your crimping, you have to stay on the channalure, and most barnes X have none. Barnes further says their bullets like to jump, and thus reccomend trying seating them as much as 0.050 to 0.075 in off the lands, whereas tradition has it that less than 0.010 is most accurate for other types. The COAL will then depend on your particular chamber dimensions and then the feeding limitations. Seating them touching the lands can cause pressure increases, so do not try that without reducing the load. Additionally seating too deep can also cause pressure because it decreases the case volume. — When you believe in things that you don’t understand then you suffer – superstition Stevie wonder Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING
