There have been more chamberings for the contender than you can imagine.  Fox Ridge lists 20 different calibers for the Contender.  Some custom barrel makers list more. Check out http://www.tcarms.com for starters. That will give you some idea of what Thompson offers.  There are also custom barrel makers that can fix you up with anything your heart desires (and your wallet can afford) Bullberry is one of them http://www.bullberry.com.  I’ve even heard of someone having a 15" Encore chambered in 416 Rigby. He will be surprised to find that the caliber does not tell the entire story, as, for instance, if he chooses .30 caliber, he can get cartridges from .30 carbine, a plinking round, up to .308 Win. which will be adequate for deer, and even beyond. There are two different things going on here: Thompson Contender and Thompson Encore the cartridges are different, the Encore handles long action rifle cartridges, the Contender is more for pistol cartridges and e.g., 45/70 govmt., that are low pressure. The barrels for the Encore are not interchangeable with barrels for the Contender, and vice versa. # ## #makers list more. # # # #Check out http://www.tcarms.com for starters.
