If you have a week to spend, don’t be leery about freelancing in those areas. Having just returned from North Dakota on a weeklong trip where we did not use a guide, I was amazed at the places we found to hunt. We didn’t have swan permits, but if we had them we could have filled them. We did buy crane licenses and were able to get some. Not to say that a guide wouldn’t put you into birds right away – I’m sure he or she would, and you’d definitely want a guide if you’re going for snow geese unless you have a zillion decoys. But if you don’t find someone to swap hunts, go anyway. You will not regret it. Tom Pink E.U.P. I would like to swap either a duck/goose hunt or a spring turkey hunt in Missouri for a swan/crane/waterfowl hunt in either North or South Dakota next year. I have a tremendous amount of muture gobblers on private land available and lots of waterfowl hunting on public land at my fingertips. However, I would like to hunt swans and cranes. I have never been to either of these states and am a bit leery about just going blindly to these areas. James James M.
