Simmons scope questions

Question:

I have a Simmons scope on my .303 Brit. rifle and no problems at all. Check the scope mount, rings, etc. to see if anything came loose. All screws should be lock tighted on , to avoid loosening. After you have successfully done this and you still have problems, I’d then say it was internal problems, and the scope should be returned. Simmons is very good on the warranty !  I’m the NRA "The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed." << Hello, I recently bought a used gun, and mounted on it was a Simmons Deerfield 3×9 – 50mm scope.  It looks like not a bad scope, but not a great scope.  Does anyone have a scope like this?  Has anyone heard anything good or bad about this scope?  I boresighted this gun and scope and shot it a couple of times and it seemed not to bad.  I put it away for awhile and then took it out again the other day.  When I shot it, it was way off. I put the boresighter back on it and sure enough it was WAY off.  I’m curious to know if these scopes are known to have similar problems or if maybe the gun was knocked and that’s why the scope is out.  Its mounted on a .303 British, not the heaviest of calibers, so I can’t see the recoil throwing of the scope.  Any info would be appreciated. >> I used a Simmons 4X on my .22 for several years.  It was a good scope for the money.  It was great in low light, never fogged on me etc.  I must say that I never used it in really wet weather though. Heading into this deer season I needed a scope for my 30-06 so I transfered it over to that.  It survived the first day hunting just fine till I fell and knocked it against a rock.  No more scope.  I am sure most scopes would have suffered the same fate. I would say that for the money there a good scopes.  If I was going to hunt in rainy weather or snow, I would spend the extra money for a better brand though. I’m having a similar problem.  I have a 3×9 simmons scope on a 30-06.   I’m gonna try some trouble shooting first before I blame the scope.  this is what I suggest you try:  1. try a product called lock-tight on your scope ring screws and make sure they are tight.     2. If your not happy after that, contact the Simmons scope co. and let them know about your problem.  The scope should have a life-time guarantee. I own 3 Mag 44 Simmons scopes mounted on 2 .308s and a 280.  These scopes have performed flawless.  Totally I believe they have taken approx 50 deer. It is true that it is a marriage between the rifle/scope/shooter; however, last Sunday I sighted-in these rifle and shot "quarter-size" groups at 100 yds. Practice with it and I think you’ll be happy.  With a 50mm opening optic, it will increase your ability to see targets clearlt during that difficult time of the day — at dusk. I have a simmons scope on three of my riffles and love them.  2 of them are the 44 mags.  One is on a 7mm and I have never had a problem with it.  In fact one night I had to slam on the breaks and the scope hit the dash hard. Never veered one inch. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Hello, >I recently bought a used gun, and mounted on it was a Simmons Deerfield >3×9 – 50mm scope.  It looks like not a bad scope, but not a great scope. > Does anyone have a scope like this?  Has anyone heard anything good or >bad about this scope?  I boresighted this gun and scope and shot it a >couple of times and it seemed not to bad.  I put it away for awhile and >then took it out again the other day.  When I shot it, it was way off. >I put the boresighter back on it and sure enough it was WAY off.  I’m >curious to know if these scopes are known to have similar problems or if >maybe the gun was knocked and that’s why the scope is out.  Its mounted >on a .303 British, not the heaviest of calibers, so I can’t see the >recoil throwing of the scope.  Any info would be appreciated. >Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: >        http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Is the scope way off or the gun??? What about the mounts. All things are posible and the REAL culprit needs to be identified. Louis Just a thought! Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Check if the scope is mounted secure and if it is moving when you fire the rifle. I own a Simmons White Tail Classic for four years on a 7 mm Rem Mag. It never gave me any trouble. Herb. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
