Scope for Win 30-30
Question:
I tried a scope on my M94 Winchester, .32 Win. Spl. Awwwww, don’t. I now have set of side mounts for sale. I immediately went back to the Williams Peep Sight, ahhhhhhh, love it. My son puts six shots of six in a four inch circle at 100 yards with the peep sight. I see no reason for a scope. # Don’t do it!! Unless your an lod man and starting to go blind don’t get # a scope. The 30/30 will not shoot far enough to need it anyway. Get a # peep site. If your vision is failing and you do need a scope then go # low power with a large objective lens. Nothing worse then trying to # sight your target in and all you can see is a closeup of twigs. A peep # is faster then a scope too. I agree with Simon: don’t scope an old Winchester 94. You may be compromising the value of an heirloom, and, besides, a scope on an old octagon-barrelled slabside looks ugly as homemade sin. You might consider a Lyman tang sight–they make one specifically for the 94. If you really need a scoped rifle, give the old 94 to your offspring, and get something newer. Tom. #What would be the best way to scope an old 30-30 with octogonal barrel (flat #on top). # #Is drilling holes in the barrel would be a safe solution. # #Thanks, # # #Jacques # Only thing I would say, is you must be carefull poking holes in old collector firearms (if that is what you have). You can greatly reduce the value of a collectable firearm by doing this sort of thing. You should have a good gunsmith do this and if he/she knows their business they can advise you as to the wisdom of your intended modification. I’ll add that you should talk to a good gunsmith, drilling and tapping barrels isn’t for the inexperienced. — Good fishing, Matt Moore Visit Matt’s Severum World at: http://www.virtualseeds.com/matt.html # > # # # Is drilling holes in the barrel would be a safe solution. # # # # Thanks, # # # # Jacques # # # # I could be way off on this one, but isn’t Winchester 30-30 with octagonal # barrel one of the collector guns.
