Ruger #1 accuracy, .338 Win Mag…good load

My favorite in a custom built rifle mauser action douglass 29" barrel kevlar stock 75 gr RL 19 Horn. 250 sp. win brass 2960 instrumental fps While I am not able to do it, i have seen sub 1" groups at 300 yards. A few weeks back, there was a discussion of accuracy in the Ruger #1. I *think* the original post was from someone who had this rifle in .338 Mag. At the time, I talked with him about accuracy in these rifles in general, but didn’t have any specific load data. I do have now. I realize that the original poster may not be around, but maybe this will help someone out there. I have never before tried the Speer semi-Spitzers, though I’d heard good things about them (I’m a Sierra and Nosler sort of guy :-) Anyway, this one shoots 5/8" avg groups at a chained 100 yds FROM THIS RIFLE. YMMV. 275 gr Speer Semi Spitzer 72 gr. RL19 WW Super brass WLR primer 2630 instrumental fps (~2650 mv) That load is right up on top of the recommended loads, so it may be too hot for another rifle. Use normal loading precautions for working up the load for YOUR rifle. I’m certainly going to give the Speer SSp a try in other guns now.
