Rifle for my wife?

Question:

My deer rifle is a Remington Model 7, in 7mm.08.  Small gun, reasonable ballistics, and a deer stopper, for whitetail.  I have access to bigger guns, but like this one to tote around the woods. Heck, I’m a big ol’ GUY, and I’ll be hunting blacktails in Oregon with a Model 7 in 7mm-08.  A perfect caliber for deer.  If I was hunting big mulies I’d take my 30-06 but even then, the 7-08 would do just fine if it had to. The length of pull is not ideal for me, but it’s not so bad.  I just have to be careful to get a good cheek weld.  For a woman a smaller person, run out and buy a Model 7!  They are a great package.  Well, some of them suck, actually (mine did and does with most brands of ammo) but it’s a nice IDEA, anyway <g>… I like the model 7 because it’s quick to point and as you say, easy to carry around.  I hunt in the dense, dark jungle of western Oregon and there’s just no need for a full-size rifle, and in fact it’s a pain in the butt to try and manuever a longer gun around.  I almost bought a Browning BLR in 7-08 for the same reason… that’s a great caliber. -jeff Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
