Report on Federal Premium 7 Mag 160 gr Nosler Part.
Question:
Went shooting today. I fired Federal Premium 7 mag 160 gr Nosler Partitions out of a 24" barrel from a rest. Grouped ok, but I was surprised by the following: At 100 yds, I sighted the rifle 3" high. At 200 yds, the bullets grouped at -1.7", (?), and At 300 yds, the bullets grouped at -10.25.(?) Somehow, this doesn’t quite follow the table! Just a lesson to be sure to shoot to see what a bullet will really do. Anyhow, does anyone have any real life experience, (not quoting from a manual), on what the best factory premium bullet load would be in the 7 Mag? it is good to see someone doing his homework!! i think you are probably using the best bullet for your rifle. i can tell you some not to use: speer mag-tips they explode on impact at anything less than 200yds. sierra boattail they perform poorly as a hunting bullet as they fail to hold together. this info comes from about 5 friends of mine who witnessed shooting many animals and only having luck with partitions when it cam to bullet performance. regards, bl Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING
