I’ve been checking out a Model 700 BDL SS on consignment at a local gun shop. The operators of the store can only tell me that the rifle has been there for almost one year. Does anyone know (or know how to find out) what year Serial # S6244611 was manufactured?? Look on the left side of the barrel, just ahead of the receiver and there should be two letters followed by two numbers. If you can not open the bolt with the safety on, it is manufactured prior to 1981. If once the firing pin is primed, the rear of the pin assembly protrudes outside the black shroud, it was manufactured prior to 1968.
