Remington Core-Lokt
Question:
I use them because they shoot really well in my 300 win mag. The 180’s and the 150’s both shoot real tight groups. I don’t know about bullet failure. I haven’t shot a whitetail yet that could hold a bullet inside it from shoulder to shoulder. Just one small hole going in and one great big one going out. I’ve seen Remington Core-Lokt’s fragment badly on Mule Deer. Look at the new Remington ammo with Nosler Partition bullets or the Federal Premium ammo with Trophy Bonded bullets. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I was wondering if anyone had any information on how the Remington Core-Lokts preformed on deer. I have a Rem 7400 in .280. Slim Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I now use Rem Core-Lokts for most of my shooting. I have always had totally consistant bullet performance; no separations, consistant expansion and weight retention. I use the 150 grain extensively in my 7MM Weatherby Mag. Also 185 grain in 8X57. The Remington has always done it’s job. And the price can’t be beat!! Several of the "Premium" bullets, on the other hand, have not done well in the 7MM Weatherby. Noslers and the Winchester New Technology bullets just have not worked in my situations. Total separation of core and jacket, very inconsistant performance. I will take the old reliable Remington any day!! I think they are excelent!! I shoot a .270 Browning with a 130 gr. Pointed Soft Point Core-Lokt and SON you would not believe the results. I have dropped deer in their tracks from 15 yards up to 562 steps!! It might not have exactly 562 yards, but it was that many steps because we walked it off. Anyway I would not change bullets for nothin! The only complaint I would have is that it does ALOT of meat damage, but so what R–E–B Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Contrary to the experience of others, I’ve seen real problems with the Remington Core-Lokt bullets on deer. In .30-06 the disintegrated badly on one deer hunt at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Use the Remington loads with the Swift bullets or Nosler Partitions, Winchester Fail-Safes or Winchesters with Nosler Partitions, or the Federal Premium ammo with the Trophy Bonded or Nosler Partition bullets. I shoot a 300 win.mag., the Rem.Core-Lokt would brake apart at close range shots, I went to a fed. premium with no problems. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Remington Corelokt bullets have served me very well indeed. Over the years I have used them in .243, .223, 22-250, .308 and .280 Rem - factory and handloads – to take over 300 deer, without a single bullet failure. Exceptionally good value for money, too. My younger brother has a win.m-70 stainless that will put those pointed cor-lokts(30cal 150’s) into a ragged hole,it’s almost amazing! It’s common knowlege that the core-lokt is one of the best factory bullets going, the speer hot-core is another good one for the price…if you reload. I should note, his rifle had a definite preference for the POINTED core-lokt!! good luck Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

IVE SHOT THEM AND THEY DIDN’T IMPRESS ME MUCH. EXIT HOLE THE SAME SIZE AS THE ENTRY HOLE. NOT MUCH INTERNAL DAMAGE EITHER.

I have used them exclusively on Deer, Big Horn Sheep and Antelope for 10 years. I have had three misfires. Likely due to a weak firing pin. Otherwise Great groups at 100, 200 and 300 yards. Shots have been shot. I have used .270 100 grn. and mostly 130 grn. loads. Have at it. Good luck. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I had an experience in which I shot a bull elk several times at short (10 yards) range with Core-Lokts. One shot hit the front shoulder and performed well; the second passed through the thorax and lungs with entry and exit holes the same size. With some good luck I was able to locate and dispatch the animal, but I have not used Core-Lokts again. However, I am not sure that any other bullet would have performed differently at that range. At that range you should be using bow and arrow. :-) -jc- Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
