Remington Bronze Point Bullets
Question:
A friend gave me three boxes of Remington Bronze Point bullets and I have never herd of these bullets before. They are .30 Caliber 150 grain bullets made by Remington. Are these very good bullets? How would they work on game? I am thinking of reloading some in a 30-06. Where would I find reloading data for these bullets? Thanks. These were the one first to use a tip insert to promote expansion. They are great deer rounds and they have good hunting accuracy. As for reloading information, just load them just like any other spitzer. I have loaded them in my .30-06 and liked them very much. Scott

I have no personal experience with the Remington Bronze Point but I have read quite a bit about them. I have read mixed reviews on the Remington Bronze Point. Guys like Elmer Keith really did not like these "trick point" bullets and he wrote many times about how they preformed poorly on game. Then on the other hand guys like Jack O’Connor used 180gr Remington bronze point bullets on Grizzly Bear with good reports. O’Connor even went so far as to say "For mountain hunting I do not think there is much doubt that the best .30/06 load is with the 150-grain bullet at 2960 f.p.s. Bullets of this weight should be of spitzer-shape and hold velocity well. For most mountain game the bullet should be fairly easily expandable. Long-time favorites of mine have been the Western open point 150-grain and the Remington bronze point." O’Conner also said of the 150gr Remington Bronze Point "It is my favorite deer medicine in the 150-grain version in the .30/06". Of course Keith may have hated the Bronze Point just because O’Conner loved it or vise versa. Actually I think O’Connors statement is quite accurate but I’d update combination in the 06′ because it just works so well for so many things. You can take coyote, deer, pronghorn, African plains game, and elk with this load and only need to memorize one trajectory. Nicely balanced. Anyway I’m getting off the point of your post… For load data you might find some listings in some older manuals. Try some older 1950s-60s reloading manuals that are not from a bullet manufacturer and you may find a specific listing for this bullet. However you could simply use load data from any modern 150gr uncoated Spitzer bullet. My 2 favorite 150gr .30-06 loads are: personally use 60.0gr of RL-19 with the Nosler 150gr BT in one of my 06s). Generally one of those 2 loads will give your good hunting MOA in your rifle. I tend to back off about 1gr from MAX since I sometimes use my rifles in very hot weather and I don’t want problems with case extraction. Those velocity figures are from a 23 1/2inch barrel and from the Nosler Reloading Manual Number Three. Mark, the Bronze Point is essentially a protected-point expanding bullet, somewhat similar to the Nosler Ballsitic Tip, but with a bronze (and not polycarbonate) tip. The tip protects the nose from damage in the magazine, helps make for a flat trajectory, and on impact drives rearward to facilitate core expansion. Remington calls it "A superb choice for long-range medium game." For loading data you can start with any published starting loads using other 150 grain conventional flat base jacketed bullets, and work your way up from there. — MOLON LABE. – Leonidas of Sparta, 480 B.C. I have been using Remington Bronze points for years and years. They are very accurate when used in a 30-06 or lesser velocity cartridge. I however use the 180 grain version. I have rechambered this rifle in 30-338, which is 260 fps faster than the 30-06. In 1999 I took a deer in Colorado using a 180 Bronze Point at 546 yards. In 2000 I took a deer using a 180 Bronze Point at 475 yards. My favorite load for a 30-06 is 55 grains of IMR 4350 with a 180 grain Brz Pt. with no excessive pressure indication. Since 55 grains is a full case full, I believe, but don’t guarantee, that the 150 grain would not build excessive pressures. You should back off 10% and watch your primers for excessive pressures as you work up your load. My experience shows that Bronze Points are a very accurate bullet. Before I get it… I should have said that you should substitute the Nosler Partition for the heaver game on my list above… I keep 165gr BTs and Partitions loaded that shoot to the same point of impact and use the Partition bullet for heaver game.
