I’ve used 21.0 & 21.5 grains of IMR 4198 for bullets from 50 to 55 grains with great accuracy.  (Is there anything that DOESN’T shoot well in the .222?) Does anybody have any favorite handload information for the .222 Remington? My primary objective wwill be to develop a good shooting cartridge then use it on varmints, skunk, coyote & possum. The factory loads out of this Mod 70 don’t seem too accurate. I’m hoping it’s the load then if not, I’ll go the scope route. By the way in reference to Chris’ accuracy problem a mag on the Mod 70 states to "tighten the stock as follows, with screws installed but loose, thump the stock on a carpeted surface to seat the recoil lug, then tighten firmly the front guard screw. Next, tighten the rear guard screw with equal tension as the front guard screw. And, finally, the center screw should be tightened last and only modestly. (tighten, then back off 1/2 turn)". I know it’s a different rifle, but maybe this will help.        Best Regards & Happy Holidays to all, Andy Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

My .222 is a M700 BDL. I have found that either IMR4064 or IMR3031 at 23.0 grs works well for me. That works with either 50 or 55 gr bullets. My loading manuals lists max as a few tenths grain more but I don’t know how they get that much in there.      Bill Van Houten (USA Ret)  "No matter how hard you try, you can’t throw a potato chip very far."
