Winchester Small Rifle primers are known to be a "soft" primer, at least in my experience. Try the Remington 7  1/2 primer, I think you will be a lot happier. Start at 24 gr and work back up. The following manuals; Hornady, Hodgdon, and Nosler all show a 26 gr load as maximum. Only the Lyman manual shows a heavier load. I don’t have a Sierra manual. Personally, I use a 27 gr charge with the 50 gr Ballistic Tip with no problem. However, I use it for coyote hunting, so getting the barrel real hot isn’t a problem.

I reload .223 for varmit hunting and have a problem with flat primers.  I’m using H335, 26 grains with a 50 grain Sierra blitz, winchester brass & primers.  I shoot a tricked out 700 BDL varmit-stainless and fluted.  I also reload on a Dillon 650.  My gunsmith says that the H335 is really sensitive to temperature.  Anynone else have this experience with H335? This load is well below any printed maximums that I am aware of.  I still have 900+ rounds loaded. Also, why does Dillon include a crimp die for the 223? and no I don’t use it.
