Reblueing??

Question:

#This might be slightly off topic, but I couldn’t think of a better place #to ask. # #I have several guns that I would like to reblue.  I have, at this time, #no clue as to the hows or whats involved in doing a good reblueing job. Why not attend an NRA short-course at one of the Jr.Colleges around the country. I am going to attend three this Summer at Murry State College in Southern Oklahoma this June. One of which is finishing, (bluing) and preparation for blueing. Chad, If I could just offer some preliminary advice…. You will quickly discover that there are two basic blueing techniques. The most common is hot blueing, and this is what most gunsmiths do. The other is often called "rust blueing" and is what used to be employed by most high grade gun manufacturers, it is more laborious. As you might suppose the ability to do the job the old and  most laborious way, is proabably the goal most worth your efforts. If you want to learn how to do it, I would suggest learning this method. As you sort through information about the various processes, limiting your inquiry to one technique will be helpful. This might be slightly off topic, but I couldn’t think of a better place to ask. I have several guns that I would like to reblue.  I have, at this time, no clue as to the hows or whats involved in doing a good reblueing job. Two of the guns are shotguns (one 20 and one 12) and the other is nice lever action .22 rifle that I told my dad I would fix up for him.  The 20 is a savage that I bought (actually my money – dads signature) about 10 years ago that I can use as my "first try" subject (not real expensive…). Is there anyone who could point me to a book, article, or dish out any advice?  I don’t have the money to take them to a gunsmith, and actually want to learn how to do it myself. Replies to the group (if not off topic) or through personal e-mail would be greatly appreciated.
