A lot farther than would be ethical to make a shot.  Probably 600-700 yards+. Tom "Quemadmoeum gladius neminem occidit, occidentis telum est." ("A sword is never a killer, it’s a tool in the killer’s hands.") –Lucius Annaeus Seneca "the Younger" (ca. 4 BC-65 AD)

I ran this through my balistics program and came up with 100.

Jordan, Either will kill a buck at distances well beyond what you should be shooting anyway.  My question is, do you really need (or want) that much gun for deer?  If Elk are in your plans by all means get a 300 Win Mag as I feel it is one of the best calibers for Elk (along with the 7mm Rem Mag). For Deer, a rifle in 270 Win, 280 Rem, or 30-06 would be my first choice. A heck of a lot further than anyone can accurately shoot. Roger

Well, the 300 could probably kill a full grown 300 lb whitetail buck at 900 yards and the 7mm 600-700 yards.  Way out of a sensible range.

Response:

Much farther than most people can shoot accurately.  500 yards if the wind is calm.  Limit your shots to 300 and use a rest.  You’ll kill more game cleanly.

I’ve often seen 1200 foot pounds quoted as the minimum "energy" required to kill a White tail sized animal.  Disregarding bullet construction and placement the following ranges are where these two will deliver 1200ft lb **BUT** bullet drop is around 97 inches at this range. Response:

Snipers shoot people at 1000+ yds with a .308 Win.  So lets say that the .300 mag will go quite some more, as well as the 7MAG. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> what is the max killing power of these guns on a full grown white tail > buck? >A heck of a lot further than anyone can accurately shoot. >Roger
