Nikon Scopes

Question:

Nikon are a bit more expensive than Leupold.  I use 3×9x40mm Leupolds as the mainstay of what I scope my rifles with and I have 2 fixed power Leupolds and  have had no failures.  I own 1 Nikon 3×9x40mm and I put it on my 338Win Mag because I got a deal on the Nikon and I liked the idea of a rubber ring on the eye orbit end in case of excessive recoil or shooting uphill and until it fails it’s staying there.  Burris scopes have the best internals IMHO and theoretically should return to zero if they are readjusted for different loads, either it’s me or they don’t like me because my Leupolds do and my Burris don’t.  I like Leupolds because I live close to Beaverton, Oregon, I have toured their factory, like their service policy, and I like to buy American and support American jobs. the Nikon is a great scope but i can’t recommend it for a magnum caliber rifle….mine started fogging up after i put it on my .338 win mag….Nikon replaced it no charge though….great customer service. i don’t have any experience with a Leupold but i can recommend Burris scopes. In the US the Leupold has several advantages over the Nikon. The Leupold has longer eye relief than Nikons, 100mm vs. 75mm +/-. We like our rifles like our cars, the bigger, the better :-> and the extra eye relief is welcome. The Leupold has come in ahead of Nikon on a test of the 6-14X scopes. Burris lead Leupold and the others on that comparison test. Pentax has a new coating that has increased light transmission.
