Night Vision Scopes

Question:

I was thinking about getting a night vision scope to view animals and what ever else that ventures on my property. Gen I is my only option. II and III are too high for my budget. My friend said Gen I is not any good, since the subject has to be still before you can make it out. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. This is the one I’m buying.  At $495 it’s a pretty good buy.  It can be used on a rifle, on the end of the 35 MM Camera and as a monocular.  The drawback is that it’s a Gen I but they seem durable. Another hint.  If you know a person in the military, they are usually about $50 cheaper at the PX. I’m getting 3 for Christmas (one for me and the other two are gifts), I can’t wait to shoot coyote with it. Here’s the link to take you to the scope.  Enjoy http://www.anything3d.com/atncorp/index.php3   I was thinking about getting a night vision scope to view animals and   what ever else that ventures on my property. In general, you would probably like the outcome better if you take the price of a Gen I night-vision device and use it as kindling for your next campfire.  While it is true that Gen III devices are still "up there" with premium digital camcorders in price, the Gen II devices are not prohibitively expensive, and the perceived difference in image quality of a G-II over a G-I would be much like the difference between, say, a "name brand" riflescope and a "cheap" scope with scratched lenses.  This observation was made with 53-year-old eyes that don’t see as well as they once did.  ;-/  YMMV.     -jc- Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
