New Rifle Selection

Question:

Well, I went shopping with my bud’s wife for his new rifle and this is what we came up with.  After handling many guns in their price range we decided on the Remington Model 700 BDL in 30.06.  I was like a kid in a candy store.  We had everything all figured out and while she was deciding between the drop magazine or the fancy scroll engraving the store clerk handed me a Winchester and he might have well had handed me a gun made just for me.  Back and forth we went between the two but the Remington finally won out.  Now we hope he likes it.  Me, I’m leaning towards a new Remington Mountain Rifle. Response:

Remington once had a problem with their ADL/BDLs with them firing when the safety was released. One thing I like about the Ruger is you don’t have to release the safety when downloading. Was wondering if Remington adopted this nice feature yet….. I’m a Ruger fan also, but to keep things in perspective and be fair about it … The "problem" you mention was *not* an across the board problem, but it did occur in a few instances.  But then, heck, my father’s ‘03 Springfield used to do that, too … so it isn’t just Remington. I don’t recall if the model 7 I bought in about ‘92 had it, but the 700 BDL I bought in ‘93 did.  So yes, Remington DOES include that feature now. Aloha Roger, You made a good (but hard) choice.  Your buddy will love you, his wife , and (most importantly) his rifle.  You personally will have the special satisfaction, everytime you two go out hunting, that you helped select His favorite rifle (very hard choice but I, personally, would have leaned in favor of the Winchester, just me). Congratulations, and happy shooting to the both of you. P.S.  I wish MY wife would ask my buddy to help ME a new rifle.  Tell your buddy he has a great wife!
