muzzy flintlock – BLACK WATCH PISTOL

Question:

The pistol that comes to mind is of Scottish origin.  The framework is all metal.  There is no wood in its construction.  My belief, since I have never shot one, is that it may be a working muzzleloader but not necessarily designed to be a target or hunting weapon.   If You’re referring to the same gun that Dixie Gun Works sells, then I handled one at a gunshow. It was heavy and cold for it’s size, the grip was too small for my hand, and I have "normal" size hands. I believe they’re smooth bore, which aren’t known for acuracy, but fairly good shooting at close range can be done with a smoothy. The gun I handled didn’t have the smoothest action either, I can’t comment on reliablility or parts availability. It’d likely need some tuning to perform. — Good fishing, Matt Moore Visit Matt’s Severum World at: http://www.virtualseeds.com/matt.html

I don’t know, but out of hand doubt a BP pistol is going to give satisfactory hunting service, sights available on replicas of traditional BP designs are going to be very crude, power is presumed by me to be low, and ballistic performance of spherical balls typicaly loaded is absolutely awful compared to cylindrical (mini ball) rifle type ammo that use a different rifling twist rate for stabilization.  For fun on paper I think you’d be happy though. — Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
