Load Data Needed
Question:
Start with buying a new box of bullets. Match bullets were not made for hunting and should not be used for this purpose. There are many good hunting bullets out there for the 7mm/08. The 145 gr Speer Grand Slam, 150 gr Nosler Partition and 154 gr Hornady spire point are all good bullets for whitetail in the 7mm/08. Good hunting. > I recently purchased a box of Sierra 150 gr. HPBT match > for Pennsylvania whitetail deer. > Any info is greatly appreciated.

150 HPBT Match The "Match" part of this is the operative word! It is a target bullet, not a hunting bullet. Luckily you do not have to believe me, just go to the Sierra web site and see what they think of it as a hunting bullet! If you don’t like the sound advice you have got so far then go to the Sierra website and send an e-mail to Sierra. They generally answer in a day or 2 and give out load data. Also mention to them what you want to use that bullet for and your response will be quite similar to the responses received in this group to date. Give us a little more help…Do you normally reload for rifles? If so, what powders and primers do you have on hand? If you’re already loading, you should have at least one book to work from… Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I have a very old Sierra load book that has a .284 Winchester, I do not know if this is the same as the 7-08, and there is nothing in a 150gr. HPBT. Someone should have a more recent Sierra manual with info to use.. >I recently purchased a box of Sierra 150 gr. HPBT match (purchased from >MidwayUSA) in 7mm. In general, it is recommended that one not use "match" bullets for hunting. Sierra expressly states in their reloading manual that their match bullets are not intended for hunting. The primary reason is that match bullets generally will behave like "armor-piercing" bullets when used on game animals; i.e., they are designed for maximum aerodynamic efficiency rather than "terminal performance", since their "intended mission" is to punch holes in paper targets. -jc- Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
