Question:
I’m thinking about purchasing a Ruger #1 in 45-70 and would like to hear from some #1 owners. Are they built well. Can you un-cock them if you decide not to shoot. Is disassembly easy? Tell me about the pros and cons of shooting the #1. I’m interested in this one too. Try reposting your message as "WTB: Ruger #1 in 45-70" and then list the body of your message question again. Also cross-posting in rec.guns might help. -nb

I have several #1 Rugers and like using them very much. In answer to beanpoles questions. 1 Yes they are very well built. 2 You can open the lever or put on the tang safety. The hammer in a #1 is concealed in the action in front of the trigger and cannot be lowered as you would do on a Winchester model 94. 3 If you can take down a modern rifle you probably would have no trouble with the #1. The manual provided is easy to follow. 4 Pros Compact, Light, Accurate, Beautiful, Ruger ring system on 1/4 rail Cons If you use a scope with a larger than 32 MM objective lens you will need to buy higher rings.(several heights available from Ruger ~$30 people hanging over your shoulder drooling every time you go to the range ps Invest in a quality scope!! The Ruger #1 or #3 in 45-70 has a recoil that will shake a cheap scope apart after a few rounds especially with the Federal 300 grain loads. hope this helps feel free to E-mail me if there are any specifics I can answer CTK
