Go for it. I picked up a filthy, dirty, dusty, greasy Ruger 7mm Mag in a pawn shop for $180 (with 4x Burris scope). Took it home, took it apart, cleaned it up. Looks brand new. I even oiled the stock. It shoots extremely well, at least I hit what I aim at. I even got offered $400 from one of my friends. (Didn’t sell) IMPORTANT: watch for rust and make sure it’s a safe gun. If in doubt, have a gunsmith check it out! Some bargains are anything but. It’s a good all around caliber, and I can hunt pig, deer, and even elk. Brand new can be $$$, but there are lots of folks out there who want to sell or trade… Good luck TP

More than sufficient. As would a .30-06 or even a .270. As you’ll hear over and over again, shoot what you shoot well, and know it’s capabilities. Good luck and welcome. Adrian It is a great chioce, if you can shoot it with out flinching, a 7mm-08 or 280 Rem or 270 Win will do anything a 7mm Mag will on lower 48 game. Shoot as much rifle as you can handle well. C.H.

Adrian, before you buy may I recommend you get a copy of Craig Boddington’s _Shots at Big Game_. It’s as good a primer on big game rifles as I’ve read and, unlike some of the classics, addresses currently availalbe firearms and cartridges. Good luck, good hunting! — Michael Brady
