It would, but what manufacturer makes a Full Metal Jacket bullet in 7mm?   (lead core, copper jacket, no hollow point or insert). I’ve been using Nosler 125 gr Ballistic Tips out of my 7mm Weatherby mag and have killed yote’s at very long ranges.  If your planning to  save pelts you’d better be sure to make head shots. jerry- Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING

Try Barnes solids.  Not X-Bullet, the solid.  They are avaliable in spitzer shapes and should bore straight through without expanding in most cases, leaving a small exit hole. Trying to download a 7mm Rem Magnum to the point where it won’t tear up a coyote with normal hunting bullets will result in erattic accuracy and the possiblity of detonation if small charges of slow powder are used. Since you want the pelt, with that much energy you could use a bullet which doesn’t expand and will not disintegrate on impact.   A good choice would be the 140 gn Barnes #28431 solids.  They should just zip right through and not dump much energy.  The only problem with them is that they are EXPENSIVE ($21.99/50 from Midway). Still, that’s a lot cheaper than buying a different rifle. I want a pelt. Any suggestions? Also looking for land in Colorado with some chances for coyote. Yes they are a game animal in Colorado, with a season etc. Hope you’re good at sewing! <G> Seriously, I would use a heavy bullet if it is the pelt you want. Otherwise, use whatever. If you want flatter trajectory, try a Barnes x, or an FMJ would be a good bet.  Should kill ‘em pretty dead and you won’t go through near as much thread. Good luck.         I’m not sure why Sheldon would suggest a heavier bullet unless long-range trajectories are the norm.  However, I have killed two coyotes with my .280 and 110 grain Speer TNTs.  Velocity around 3350, Ranges were approx. 115 and 150.  Neither bullet exited save one very small hole on the offside just forward of the hip.  May have been bullet or bone fragment.  Absolutely hammer-’em-down dead before they hit the ground – in both instances.  Speer may recommend keeping velocities below 3500 for this bullet. —  ***** To reply:   remove the hyphen (-) at the beginning of my e-mail address.  ***** David J.
