Browning BRL 308 for wild boar hunting
Question:
I bought a BUSHNELL 3×9 40mm and very happy with it for deer and hog on my 30-30 marlin. It was $62.00 and can be purchased at a local walmart. Its a little higher than your tasco or simmons, but the lighting in it is Awesome and worth the price. I promise youll be happy with it. Jim Haralson, Forsyth, GA! Dan, I’ve never hunted wild pig but several fellows I know who have done so in California suggest that once you find them the action is close, fast, and furious. If you’re hunting with dogs and finishing the pig up real close I’d use an aperture receiver sight to keep the line of sight and the axis of the bore as close together as possible. Open sights will do too, but with a bit of practice an aperture sight and a post front will make longer shots an option. If your pigs are a little further away from the muzzle a 2.5x Leupold ought to be a good choice. I’m no great fan of variables but a 1-4x or 1.5-5x seems a better choice for close work than the ubiquitous 3-9x. I’ve settled on Leupold as my preferred brand. Good hunting! Not exactly. The quality of the scope has a great deal to do with clarity and light transmission. I’d choose a Leupold Vari-X III for boar in either 1.75X6X or 2.5X8X. You’ll do quite well. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Fine rifle, too much scope unless they are running along with the Pronghorns. I would think seriously about iron sights in the east…not sure where you are. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
