Browning A-Bolt II vs. Weatherby Vanguard
Question:
Rem. 700 rings and bases will fit the Vangard. I have a Rem 700 and a vangard. Out of the box, the vangard was by far the most accurate. Glen Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Weatherby. A-Bolt rifles sometimes go south for no good reason. They are about on an even par for overall quality. Dan AZ Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

They are both excellent rifles. You will not go wrong with either one. The Vanguards are made by Howa in Japan who made the Weatherby Mark V’s until the production was returned to the US. Go to Walmart and ask to see the factory target that comes with the Vanguard. > which one has better accuracy, operates more smoothly, and is the better

Browning is better than that model of weatherby. Now a lasermark weatherby would be a different story perhaps. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

The Vanguard is a Howa (Japanese). The A-bolt II is an accurate rifle, very smooth. As far as which one is the better rifle? That depends on how much you have to pay for it. I saw a very nice Vanguard with scope for $350 at a show a few weeks ago. To me that is a very good value. The A-bolts are more money. I don’t know how many centerfire rifles you own, if this is one of your first then you’d probably be better off with the A-bolt. It’s a very good rifle and all the one’s I’ve shot have been extremely accurate. Of course, the Vanguard is also a good rifle but fewer Vanguards have been sold compared to Abolts. This makes finding things like bases, rings, and smiths to do trigger jobs a bit more work.
