An old Winchester question
Question:
I have a Winchester Model 62 .22 Short pump action rifle that my great grandfather bought when it was new. I would like to no if there is any way that I can have the worn areas rechromed. It is mostly the barrel that needs a bit of work. If any one out there knows a method or place that can do a good job, please let me know. Thanks. Be sure you do not decrease its potential value to collectors by improving it. If you still want to do it, electroplating should be all that is needed. Given the age I suspect it is nickle and not chrome. Not sure of cost, but I believe a quality job will involve stripping all the existing finish by a "reverse electroplating" process (no damage from abrasion that way), and then replating it in the entirety. This is not something done by touching it up in the "bad" spots. Will cost more than a replacement gun probably. If mine, I would leave the evidence of my ancestors wear on it as is.
