Ammo Question

Question:

I have a Remington 700 in 7mm Rem. Mag. Recently I had problems with Winchester Super X CXP3 Heavy Game ammo in this rifle. After I fired the round I had to use a rubber mallet to open the bolt. The case showed no signs of abnormally high pressure. Winchester says its the rifle, Remington says its the ammo. Has anyone else had this experience? No, but odds are it is the rifle.  Hard to believe factory loads by Winchester (or any major player) would be so abnormal as to do that to a healthy rifle. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

The rifle seems to be ok, Chamber, bore and headspace check fine. It cycles Federal Premium , Remington and hand loads fine. Just the one box of Winchesters seemed to cause problems. Winchester asked me to send the box (17 rounds still live) to them. Of course I have to pay postage and no reimbursement for the ammo. Unless they deem it defective. You just about can’t do this if the chamber is clean and smooth.  Have you been shooting something else with a shorter neck?  Is the chamber clean and smooth? — Scot E.
