advice on good deer rifle?
Question:
If you want an excellent rifle go with the 30.30 or the .35 caliber it an all around gun. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
Response:
Get a .300 Mag. I know it sounds like overkill for whitetails, but you can always handload your loads to fire just like a .30-.30 or any other deer rifle. Also if you decide to hunt elk or bear, you have a gun that will do it. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

The .30-06 is more versatile. I like the Ruger M-77 and the Leupold Vari X III scope in 2.5 to 8 pover. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I would recommend a 308 by Remington or Winchester either one would last you a life time if you take good care of it. Regards, Robert Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

You’ll get a 100 different answers on what rifle to buy and why. The best thing I could tell you is narrow it down to 2 or 3 and go to the gun store and feel them in your hand. My recommendation is the Rem Model 7 in .308. It’s light easy to handle and best of all its a Remington. Can anyone guide a novice hunter (got my first deer this season with a borrowed gun) in the right direction in my quest for a good deer rifle? I am looking for a bolt action 30.06 or .308, but am unsure of which model or how much I should spend. Thanks for any help. Regards Blasket.
