What I would do is go to a sporting goods store and buy one of the Johhny Stewart game calling tapes.  I think they have a fox pup crying tape in which I have seen used very sucessfully on a hunting TV program. Just play it on a portable stereo or go ahead and buy the Johnny Stewart game caller (If you think you would use it again).  If they are within hearing range they’ll come in and you can pop ‘em.

My grandfather had a problem with foxes several years ago.  He tried traps, dogs, and even stayed out in the hen house to try and shoot them. The best thing that he tried was putting a radio in the hen house.  As long as the radio was playing he never had any more problems with the foxes Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING

# # I have a number of free range chickens and a fox seems to be out # Any ideas on their behavior and the best way to get em if you know I had this problem too.  My chickens were being killed by foxes, of course I let them run loose so I expect them to get taken.  However last winter it all stopped.  I kind of thought maybe the foxes had left but I did find their tracks int he mud around the place. I pondered how could this be. Well I found out, the chickens started roosting in the Dog house with my Labradore Retriever.  He doesn’t hurt them he just insists on giving them baths.  go figgure. # # I have a number of free range chickens and a fox seems to be out foxing me. # Any ideas on their behavior and the best way to get em if you know what I Did you SEE the fox?  IOW are you certain you have correctly identified the predator you are losing stock to?  Why?  Oftimes you can identify the predator via telltale signs it leaves behind even if you do not see it.  Around here racoons like to eat the guts out and may leave much of the rest for later.  Great Horned Owls tend to decapitate, haul off the heads and sometimes leave the rest (likely for later).  Dogs sometimes sneak one and run off away to kill it (leaving a pile of feathers there) OR they just may kill darn near the whole bunch where they catch them and leave feathers and carcasses strewn all about.  How about tracks – any notable ones left?  You get the picture.  So tell us what you saw, found, etc.  and very likely someone here can be of more help. Simple,  spotlight them at night and plink them with a rifle.  Have you tried buying a dog?
