6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser
Question:
Can anyone tell me what I can compare the trajectory/ballistics of my 6.5 x 55 Swedish mauser with? I currently am using Winchester 140gr loads. The reason I ask is I have a scope that came with 3 different graduated dials for bullet drop compensation. I don’t know which dial applies to my rifle. Up here in Ontario, I find that this caliber is probably the most versatile ones around. I have hand loaded this rifle with IMR 3031 powder on both 85gr hollow points (nice for ground hogs!), 100gr hollow points (This works well on coyotes and foxes), 140 gr. soft nose and 160 gr. round nose(which I used to load for moose). I decided last years moose trip to try the Winchester loads due to the better control of the loads. If anyone has any suggestions or could answer my initial question, I would greatly appreciate it. The very same people who give me grief about using a 223 for white tail, will not get on this list and say that the 6.5X55 is too small for moose, kind’a makes you wonder. Personally having no exsperince hunting moose with the 6.5 or with anything else, I am not about to say it is too small, actually it should be fine if the shot is made right. Although many would feel the 338 is the minimum for moose hunting, and mine is set aside for that purpose, I would not belittle the man going after one with the 6.5 or even the 7mm mauser, Many have been killed cleanly with a 30/30 (as I have read,,, not from personal experience) Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
