.270 Weatherby Magnum Opinions?
Question:
Have a chance to buy a rifle chambered for the .270 Wby Mag. Any feedback on this cartridge by those who are owners?…I have heard some marvelous things about it. JF OKC Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

The bottom line is this…the 270 Weatherby digests over 20% more powder to see a 5% velocity increase over the 270 Winchester. The 270 Winchester is most definitely a marvelous cartridge…the Weatherby shoots a little flatter, a little faster and a little further. rich, i have a winchester modle 70 with the browning boss shooting that round, i love it for hunting, shot placement at longer ranges is outstanding.the drawbacks are the cost of the rounds if you do not load your own, and also i would tell you this is not a gun that was ment for the target range ,after 3 or 4 rounds it needs to be allowed to cool down as it is super hot. there is much info. to be found about the development of this round to help you decide,if you are looking for a versitile hunting round i dont think you could go wrong Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

JF OKC>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I don’t know a lot about the cartridge but a friend of mine used one to take a bull elk with last year. I am not sure what bullets he was using but it did a number on that bull. He hit it in the shoulder at about 150 yards. he went another twenty and piled up. When we skinned it out I was amazed at the damage. The one side was blood shot on the surface almost the whole length of the elk. I would hate to think what this would do to a deer. My friend says it is a very accurate gun and he likes it. I think the meat damage to his elk was more due to bullet selection than the caliber its self. I would think a good Premium bullet would work better. Good Luck!! Mark Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

They work great. You need to reload to really enjoy the .270 Wby Mag. They are powder hogs but the results are similar to the 7MM. >Have a chance to buy a rifle chambered for the .270 Wby Mag.
