.260 Rem! Just before the .260 was announced, Rem. Model 7 Stainless Synthetic were available at shows for $519. There might be a premium for the new caliber, the wood blue gun is a little less. The M7 is a really nice light little gun! Ammo should be the same price as everything else, when you can find it. You can bet K-mart will have neither, but a decent full service gunshop will get it for you. The caliber is ideal for deer. I got my whitetail last year with a 6.5×55, 140 gr Winchester ammo, ballistically identical. 1 shot. Go buy one and tell me how it is, I want one too! This round should perform very much like a 6.5X55 Swede. So far there is one factory load: 140 grains at, if memory serves, 2600 fps. That is, it should kick and perform about the same as a 257 Roberts (roughly). In other words, it should be an excellent and very pleasant deer round, effective to 250-300 yards depending on the shooter. This round is available in Remington Model 7 and Model 700 bolt rifles.
