Compound Bow Tuning

Question:

>Pick up a book titled "Tuning Your Compound Bow" by Larry Wise. >It covers all aspects on bow tuning and should help you quite a bit.

You can pick this up through Bowhunter’s Discount Warehouse in Wellsville PA (number not handy but area code is 717). There are also a number of good videos for sale that deal with tuning. Good for you to learn how to do it yourself anyhow. If something doesn’t work as it should one day, you’ll know where to start looking. John

If you are really interested in tuning your bow, you should get a good book which explains the principles behind tuning the different parameters of the compound bow.  For example, Larry Wise has a series of mini-books that are very concise and informative (Tuning Your Compound Bow, etc.). Next, head over to rec.sport.archery and alt.archery.  Read the faq’s and follow along. Specifically: Is your draw length set correctly so that you are in the middle of the valley of the force vs. draw length curve? Are your cams timed correctly (are they rolling over at the same time)? Is there any contact of the vanes of the arrow on the rest? Is your bow grouping the arrows well? I recently purchased a new Golden Eagle Carbine Hawk and am having an awful time getting it tuned. There is not a bow shop for 70 miles around so I am tring to do it myself. I am in hopes that someone on the list can help me with my problem. I have shot it through paper as recommended and found it to be tearing high and right at an angle. I have lowered the nock point and moved the rest over to the right with no change. I also tried increasing weight and am now shooting 72 lbs. My arrows are 2117 Easton XX75. With the overdraw I am shooting the arrow at a length of 23 1/2 inches. The arrow seems to be kicking from point of release because almost every shot I hear a twang from the string. Do I need a weaker arrow or can I try some different tuning? Any help would be appreciated as I am beginning to get frustrated.                                       Thanks,                                       Mark Fowler
