Question:

#> #> I thought I would make this post to make all you goose hunters feel bad. #> I live in Portland Ore, or there abouts.  We have a rather large flock #> of Canadian Geese that have take up residents in the center of the #> city.   As most of you don’t know, the Willamette river runs through #<snip> #Big deal, we have golf courses here in MN that have more geese than your #ENTIRE state! Same here in Chicagoland, and we have more golf courses in Chicagoland than you have in all of MN!  ;-)  You can "score" more than one kind of "birdie" here.  ;-)       -jc- — Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/ To leave the Hunting listserv list, send a message with SIGNOFF HUNTING

Sounds like great performance to me. I expect to start loading for my just arrived 1895g Guide Gun (enhanced with a Lyman receiver sight and a Brockman front post) using the commercially cast 300, 350, and 405 grain lead bullets and probably the Remington 405 jacketed bullet. Anyone out there have preference as to brand of brass?  Any particular .45/70 dies better than the others? Starline is tough and now making brass for the 45-70.  I am planning on trying the 400 grn Barnes bullet in my Highwall for higher performance. #OK…Thanks for all the replies regarding .45 vs. .357 for bear defense #on our trip to Glacier.  You folks have pretty much convinced me that I #will be "out-gunned" with these calibers.  Now….I need to start #convincing my wife for a more powerful handgun.  Should I be working #towards a .44 magnum, or the .454 Cassull??  (Of course, the new handgun #will have to wait until I get her a scope for her AR-15.) #        Both handgun calibers have been recommended by many of you #helpful readers, but I can’t afford both of them…yet…Which would be the #most practical and versatile?  How hard is it to reload for the .454? #        As before, please cc to my e-mail as I don’t get to this #newsgroup nearly as often as I would like. Hello Steve, the .454 is probably not any harder to reload than anything else, it will be more expensive, and you will not be able to find factory ammo.  The 44 mag is just slighty less powerful, but you will be able to reload it cheaper and find factory ammo if needed.  Just my humble opinion.
