Pepper Spray for bears
Question:

I only have one problem with this pepper spray for bears thing. About 6% of the human population is non-reactive to pepper spray. I happen to be one of them. I found this out at a Sheriff’s meeting wher e they were showing us these new "pepper spray paintballs" they plan to use on criminals. They had us sniff the pepper particulate. Most people turned bright red and looked like they were going to pass out. I kept snorting more and more deeply because I figured I hadn’t gotten a dose. The guy finally stopped me when I had it ON my nose and looked like some sort of coke fiend. Needless to say, you do not want to meet the bear version of people like me! I am curious, just how painful is pepper spray? Compared to tear gas for example? I’ve been tear gassed and it just isn’t that bad, especially if you have a little adrenalin in you. Duh! It just occured to me that (while I would never rely on it myself) Pepper spray is probably a lot more effective on Bear (or a dog)than on a man for the simple reason bear have such a sensitive sense of smell. The more sensitive, the more overwhelming it must be I imagine to have your "smell cells" cauterized by pepper oil. i’ve been sprayed with pepper spray before (accidently), and in all honesty, it wasn’t much more than irritating, i don’t see how it could possiblt incapacitate and man , much less a raging bear.
