Bear Calls

Question:

I am looking for information on which bear calls are most effective.  Some say that the all purpose Rodent call is best for bear, while others lean toward Rabbit distress calls, cottontail and jack.  I’m just fishing for some first hand experience from the field if anyone can help. do they make a "trash dumpster" call?  Bet that would bring them in, LOL                                                -Zimmy Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at:         http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

I understand that shooting anything sounds the "dinner bell" for aggressive bears in Alaska and other points North such as NWT, Yukon, Alberta, BC, etc.  Don’t know about lower 48.  Presumably there was a varmint type of call used by Duwayne Adams of Arizona that Craig Boddinton wrote about in Hunting magazine used to call black bears. This Adams fellow is a registered guide as I understand it so should be able to find him and maybe talk to him directly.  This rather than supposition from readers like myself.  Good Luck. I heard Johnny Stewart, from Jimmy Stewart Calls,  say that you had to call continuously for two hours.  If you stop calling the bear gets sidetracked and forgets about your call. — Henry >Hi All: >I have an old army buddy who has developed a bear call

Hi All: I have an old army buddy who has developed a bear call.  After a great deal of research on both our parts we have been unable, other than through the incidental use of predator calls, to find any existing calls on the market that consistently call in bears.  Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to sell bear calls, he’s not even geared up for production yet.  However, it has occured to us, what with the growing trend to use the ballot box in lieu of wildlife management by way of real live qualified wildlife biologists, and the ever-increasing list of states outlawing bear baiting and hound hunting, that perhaps a bear call that really works might be analogous to a better mouse trap. My questions are as follows:  does anyone know of a bear call already on the market that is designed to work effectively solely on bears?  Second – this is really getting off-topic but I truly hope I can find someone with experience on the subject – assuming he has a marketable product, how does he go about protecting his invention?  He has done some research on patents and copyrights but it would appear on the surface that both approaches have enough holes in them to drive a griz through when working with a product that could be readily copied and then marketed under a different name, etc. My buddy doesn’t have access to the Net so any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, etc. would be highly appreciated and should be e-mailed directly to me in order not to tie up valuable rec.hunting resources.
